Cork County Council appointed Barry Transportation to develop a multi-modal Transportation Strategy for Little Island in Cork, to meet the transportation needs of the area for the next twenty-two years. The recommend outputs from our Study will be developed to Preliminary Design standard, fit to proceed to Planning Application stage.
The lack of travel choice on Little Island has resulted in the area becoming a car dependent settlement, which in turn has contributed significantly to congestion problems on the local and national road network, with large tidal movements leading to significant peak-hour traffic.
One of the key considerations of the study is to encourage accessibility to Little Island through investment in sustainable infrastructure and appropriate demand management measures. New scheduled bus services and improved connectivity to and from the train station (potentially via shuttle bus) will be considered as part of the study, as well as other mobility management measures such as encouraging staggered start times, carpooling and cycling to work.
